The Hamilton Spectator Project
The project nets the Spectator $37,735.00 in hydro related costs and 317,912 kW hours and 107 kW's per year.
Horizon Utilities contributed 106 kW's x $200.00 per KW as an electrical retrofit incentive, (ERIP).
The total project was approximately $100,000.00, with an 8 month return on investment.
In the beginning. Not quite Jurassic, but close. 4 x 100hp energy sapping Gardner Denver rotary screw compressors, controlled in modulation. Only 25hp of compressor was required between Friday afternoon and Sunday night. Also note the lack of storage vessels.
2 x of the oldest 100hp compressors were removed and scrapped. 2 x 660gallon air receiver tanks were installed to optimise off loading times or variable speed motor savings from the new equipment. The tanks were also designed and engineered to lean a ladder against.
A 110kW (125hp) variable speed Kaeser was able to maintain the entire production air demand Sunday through Friday as opposed to the 2 x 100hp Gardner Denvers previously operating 24/7
A single Kaeser 25hp Kaeser was installed to carry the low demand during non production times between Friday and Sunday.
